Install Problem
Recently when I attempt to use Excel and Word but not Access I get a pop up saying Preparing to Install followed by another saying the update package could not be opened and telling me to verify that it exists or can be opened. How do I stop this happening, please?

There is evidently a fault in either the installer or the copy of the software you're trying to install. Have you checked Windows update to ensure you have the latest version of the Windows Installer installed on your system? Are you trying to install from an Original Office DVD or from some other source?

I'm not explicitly trying to install anything - from anywhere. Actually I don't get an Installer error, I get a Shortcut error.
It's headed Problem with Shortcut This update package could not be opened. Verify that the update package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer update package. Is there any way of finding what it's trying to install? |

Try repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel).
