Office 2003 + SP3 on Windows 8.1 notebook
Hi to all, as MS has stopped its support for Windows XP I decided to set up a new Windows 8.1 notebook (not voluntarily!). For some specific reason I still need my Office 2003 installed on that notebook. No problem, the installation routine works as it did for Windows 7. Installing SP3 for Office 2003 (as I did under Window 7 on another notebook), the installation routine runs as usual, ending with a 'installation successful' message. But a click on 'Help > Info' in any Office 2003 program shows only SP2 being installed. Running the SP3 installation again it tells me that SP3 had already been installed. So what's correct: SP2 or SP3 installed? Is there anybody who encountered the same 'problem'? Thanks NP |

Just in case you hadn't noticed, as of April 15, 2009, mainstream support will no longer be available for Office 2003 either ...
On my Win 7 system, Office 2003 SP3 is correctly reported as such (e.g. in Help|About) and appears as version 11.0.8173.0 in the Control Panel.

True, but your error message suggests SP3's already installed; that's why I posted the additional version info - so you can compare with your own. Have you tried repairing the Office installation?
If the repair doesn't fix things and your base version was pre-SP2, try uninstalling/reinstalling and skipping whatever SPs there were between it and SP3 - you only need your base version plus SP3.

Hi Paul
Base Office 2003 Version was (is) SP2 and I only installed SP3. According the Control Panel SP3 is in fact installed. So I trust in the Control Panel, whatever SP version is displayed in Word under "Help > About" . Thanks for your help, suppose I missed the forest for the trees ... Control Panel - installled updates ... yessss NP |
