Repeated updates failure
1) History: the following update failed KB2817493 until November 13. I see on November 13 has been an installation-Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium , on November 14 some Windows 7 and Office successful updates. KB2817493 update stopped.
After this, however I get updates failure every time I shutdown. The updates are KB2817314, KB2827239, KB2817316, all 64-bit edition. These have Error Details:code 51E for first two and code 517 for the third one. 2) This might be related to other problem. When I click on Excel or Powerpoint files I am prompted to Instal Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 and I get the "error 1310: Error writing to file:C\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 15\ADDINS\PowerPivotExcelAdd-in\Resources\1025\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.rll Verify that you have access to that directory" I verify and I am told that "You gave been denied permission to access this folder". In the security tab I am told that "Corrent Owner: Unable to display current owner" I however been able (most of the time) to open Word files and also can access the Excel, Powerpoint files by opening first main Excel, Powerpoint, then opening the specific files. I don't know either the second problem is related to the first one. Please then concentrate on answering the first issue (the one with the updates). Please tell me how to solve the problem with the updates. If you can tell me what is with the second problem, that would be of course better. Last edited by theta30; 12-08-2013 at 03:23 PM. |

Hi theta30,
Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel)?

I did it now. I used quick repair for Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium and it said repair successful. This solved the problem 2). The problem 1) with updates still remains. They fail to update.

You may need to re-start your computer before it can apply the updates. Not having Office 2013 myself and not running even Office 2010 in 64-bit mode (KB2817493 is only for 64-bit installations), I'm not sure what the issue there is. If you have any addins installed, though, that may be an issue as many Office addins are not 64-bit compliant.
I suspect you have the wrong # for KB17314 probably KB2817314. You could also try downloading & manually installing the updates from an Administrator account.

Ok, I reinstall Windows Office (I had to do it because the online repair told me it was uninstalled already, so it was messed up)
Now, I uploaded again and it says "Not needed" I think it's because of "Note This update applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. This update does not apply to Office 2013 Click-to-Run edition such as Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium."
and my version is Click-to-Run Apparently, there was a conflict between Windows and Office |
