I have re-installed Office 2007 after re-formatting my disk. No problems, validated. Now when I try to run Excel, Word or PPT it puts up "Office Configuration" screen which takes a minute or so to go away.
The apps work OK even if I shut down the configuration screen.
What a nuisance.
Help would be appreciated.

Try going here and trying the rereg solution! This page is about getting 2003 and 2007 to work together, but it has a bit about getting the registration to work through the run dialogue box - give it a go, I think it may solve your issue.

I had the same problem. Had Office XP and new installed Office 2007 Enterprise. Resolved the problem in this way.

1. I uninstall Office XP (don't know if this is necessary, but I went and did it)
2. Opened microsoft word (waiting for the configuring message to end)
3. Click on office button (upper left corner), pressed word options button
4. Click resources button, then run microsoft office diagnostics

Once the diagnostics ran, it corrected the problem.

Step one find setup.exe file in programs common- microsoft shared - office12

back up the setup.exe file

change name of setup.exe
place say an x infront of setup so it reads xsetup.exe close

Step two Office re-configuring 2007 2003 maybe 2010

back up registry with say regedit
open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scroll extensions down to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.pip

Change permissions to full control on .pip remove if need be

when done just start office program say excel.. A new .pip will be created..all hassle gone

You could try to log on Locally as the Administrator (not a person with administrative rights but under the adminsitrator login) and open every office program and allow it to configure. Then close and log in as yourself.
