Default Scoreboard of sorts? PowerPoint and Excel

Alright, I am going to explain what I need to do, and it would be great if anyone could help me accomplish this task.

I am holding a competition, and I am going to have over 40 competitors. There are 6 different divisions for the competition. I need to show the scores on a secondary monitor, extended desktop on charts made in Powerpoint.

The numbers need to be input into Excel, and sorted from highest to lowest, as the numbers come in. This needs to be updated immediately to the 6 charts displayed through powerpoint, without having to screw around with powerpoint in the mean time.

The extended desktop is what is seen by the competitors, so I don't want people to see anything except a professional layout and changing scores. I do not want people to see me inputting data.

So I think of this as a scoreboard. If MS Excel and PowerPoint can't do what I need, I am open to suggestions of other programs.

So if my first competition, I have two scores 15 and 20, I want to put those into their designated fields in Excel, and have it immediately reflect in PowerPoint on the specific slide. The next competition comes in, and I have scores of 17 and 21, I will enter those into Excel, and it will add those to the chart that is already set up in PowerPoint.

Can this be done?

Set up a sample and try it. I wouldn't link to Excel though. PowerPoint 2007 uses the Excel charting engine (when you insert a chart in PowerPoint, it launches an Excel worksheet.) This way there will be no having to "update links". This should be much better in my opinion.

PowerPoint 2007 does have a dual monitor option, allowing the speaker to have a screen that is different from the one the audience sees.

I have the dual monitor option set up and working great. However, when I go to make a chart in PowerPoint, it automatically opens Excel to make my data.

I need the presentation to be updated in real-time, while it is on a loop playing about 6 slides.

Can this even be done?

Alright, setting up the charts in PowerPoint has proven to be semi-successful. For some reason it doesn't always update an "in progress" slideshow. The data has to be changed a couple of times in order for PowerPoint to recognize what is going on.

I need this to be flawless. I have people who are waiting in the wings on a scoreboard, and if it doesn't update immediately without problems, they walk away.

I also need to enter the numbers from a remote computer that is tied into the same network.

I was wondering if you ever figured this out, as I am looking for the exact same thing.
