2010 Upgrade Word Icon Missing
I hope I am posting this in the correct area, if not I am sorry. Do not know if this is an Office or Window question. I know you said don't post Word questions here, but this is not excatly a Word question.
I just upgraded from Microsoft Office 2007 to 2010. Everything works correctly but the W icon for Word is missing and I can not seem to find the way to fix it. I have searched my C: drive trying to find where Office is even located and I can not find any .exe files for any of Office. When I go into properties the change icon is grayed out. Any suggestions on how I might get the correct icon for my Word program. The Excel, and Powerpoint icons are there, only Word is missing. Any suggestions would be appriciated. I have a Toshiba 64bit, Window 7, 8mg of ram, and Office 2010. |

Go to Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office, find the Word 2010 entry, right-click on it and choose Send To> Desktop (create shortcut)

I did create a shortcut for Word, the short cut and the program under "All Programs" Microsoft Office are missing the icon for Word. That is why I have been looking for the actually .exe file to see if the icon is on it.

Are you saying you have an entry for Word, and can run it, but it has the wrong icon (or no icon)?

Yes!! That is my problem. The icon for Word program looks like a blank document icon not the W that is the normal icon for Word. When I go into properties the change icon is grayed out so I can not even change the icon. Any suggestions would be appriciated. But Word loads and runs correctly. So yes I am just being pickly about how my desktop looks.

You would need to be logged on as Administrator to change the icon.
FWIW, the Word 2010 WinWord.exe file is usually located in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office or: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 On a 64-bit Office installation (which Microsoft generally recommends not using), 'C:\Program Files' might be named 'C:\Program Files(x64)'
