Default Intermittent opening and saving of office documents

Hi

I have a problem opening and saving documents in Word and Excel (also possibly other Office applications but I have not not tested these).

If I run Word or Excel, I click 'open' in the File menu but the 'open' dialogue box (my documents) does not appear and the programme just displays the egg timer and then says 'not responding'. I am able to open documents direct from icons in the 'my documents' folder (which open in a new copy of Word or Excel) and I am able to edit the documents but they will not save.

This happens most of the time but sometimes it all works as it should. I have run virus checkers and malware applications but they have not sorted it. I have also run 'repair' on Office but again this has not helped. The Office application in question is Office 2010.
