Default Proper Procedure for updating Office 2000 to Office 2007 Professional

I would like to know if 1) I can upgrade office 2000 on XP machines to office 2007 professional or do I need to buy the full version.

2) Also, does anyone have a proper procedure including what to do with the Office 2000 PST files during the upgrade?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi stevetag,

Yes, you can use an upgrade version. IMHO, though, you'd do better to buy the full version; otherwise you'll need to keep the old version just in case you ever need to reinstall the new one.

AFAIK the upgrade will take care of the PST conversion. Aside from that, most of your existing Office customizations should be preserved. Some custom toolbars/icons might suffer, though.

Default Do I need to uninstall Office 2000 before installing the full version of Office 2007

I have a “full version” of Office 2007, do we I need to uninstall Office 2000 before installing Office 2007 pro? Do I need to export the Outlook Contacts to a CSV file and reimport them to Outllook 2007, or will it seamlessly convert emails and contacts just by installing the new Office 2007?

You don't need to uninstall Office 2000. The Office 2007 installer will delete it automatically, though you can customize it to retain Office 2000 as well. If you do retain Office 2000, note that only one version of Outlook can be installed at a time - if you install Outlook 2007, Outlook 2000 will (AFAIK) be uninstalled and all emails etc will be migrated. For Outlook questions generally, see: http://www.outlook-tips.net/
