Default Document as shortcut?

I created a document in Word, and now it is on my screen as a shortcut. It does not have the arrow in the left corner so as to remove only the icon, and I don't want to remove the document from my computer. How can I just remove the icon and not the document itself? Thanks

That suggests you have saved the document to your desktop. If you open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder you want to keep the document in, simply drag the document off the desktop into that folder.

When I drag it to the folder, it tells me I already have a file by that name in that folder ( Documents). Does that mean I can just delete the one on the desktop? Thanks..

That just means you have two documents with the same name. You should open both and check their contents before deciding to delete. If they're different, you may need to rename either or both documentsto better reflect their content. If they're the same, you can simply delete the one that's on the desktop.
