Office 2010 32-bit and Win7 64-bit

I was given a free copy of Office 2010 Professional 32-bit (Sorry Microsoft, no $$ paid here-lol) and installed it on my system running Win7 Professional 64-bit. Is there a compatibility issue? I haven't had any probs with the Office programs, but I have 16 different updates, all Office-related, that won't install. Have tried WinFixIt, repaired .NET framework, uninstalled/reinstalled Office, done clean boot and tried to manually update a couple of the updates. Nothing. Any suggestions? The only suggestion I got in the Win7 forum was to do a clean install of Win7. Really?

There is no such thing as a free copy of Office 2010 Professional. Either you have a pirated copy, or it's on genuine MS media and someone paid for it.

Really, Macro?! That's the most constructive reply you could contribute? You posted just to chastise me for not paying for my copy? It WAS free. Free to me. Yes, it is a legitimate copy on MS "Media". It was given to me by a professional in the field. I'm hardly going to feel remorseful for poor Microsoft as they continually alienate their customers by nickel and diming us for every product and offering only minimal "endless loop" online or only fee-based support. I already paid for Win7 and was given a trial version of Office (like a fish with a hook in my mouth). Used to be when you bought the OS, the Office software was included. So stuff it, or try answering my question.

Perhaps, then, instead of boasting about it being "free", which ultimately it wasn't (ie someone paid for it), and creating the impression you might have been seeking help with pirated software - which no self-respecting forum will do - it would have been more prudent for you to have stuck to the relevent issues.

There are numerous factors that could prevent updates being applied, including your system update settings (not Office settings) that are managed via the Windows Control Panel and whether you have the latest version of MS update installed. How did you obtain these updates (eg Automatic Update or manual download)? Which updates are they (ie kb#)?

Note too that some updates cannot be installed unless other required updates (to office or Windows) have already been installed. Some updates may be listed that haven't finished downloading yet and still others will only be applicable to certain configurations. You say you:

Was any error message returned? If so, what did it say? If not, how do you know the update wasn't applied?
