Default Is it safe to install 2010?

If I install microsoft office 2010 on my old computer, will it wipe out all my 2003 files? Will I still be able to open and read them?

Not unless you do something really dumb. Even so, you should always keep backups of anything that matters. So, even if you don't go ahead with the Office 2010 install, makes backups now!!

Installing Office does not, of itself wipe out anything. If anything got deleted, it was almost certainly the result of something else you did.
