Default Help: office 2010 lost its color theme

I am using win xp and have office 2010 pro installed.

Yesterday, I updated my IE from IE6 to IE 8.
Today I found that office 2010 lost its color theme. Technically it still works well but the ribbon bar's background is grey now and changing the color theme in option menu does not work.

I did repair but still the same.

Never had such issue before. Can anyone help?

I attach a screenshot here.

The first thing to do would be to check you display settings:
1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Accessibility options> Display tab
2. Uncheck the box ‘Use High Contrast’.
3. Click on Apply then OK.

Another possibility is that the affected application is running in compatibility mode. To check/remedy this:
1. Browse to the following location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12.
2. Locate the file excel.exe (since your posted image suggests you're having trouble with that).
3. Right click on the file and then click on the properties option.
4. Click on the compatibility tab.
5. Uncheck ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ checkbox and click Ok.
6. Now open the Excel and check the Ribbon color.

Hi, Macropod, thanks for the suggestions.
Both items you mentioned are good. So don't know what went wrong.

Have you checked your system's display settings? On looking at the image in your first post again, it looks like your display may be running in 16-bit mode, and at a relatively low resolution. It should be running in 32-bit mode at whatever your screen's native resolution is.

Hi, Paul, I did. The computer is under 32 bit color quality.
All other programs are fine except office 2010.

Running out of ideas.

If it's just one Excel file that's affected, it might be worthwhile ensuring you don't have sharing permissions for the file (Review>Share Workbook, then uncheck 'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time). Another issue that might affect a single file is sheet grouping. This 'group' mode can be identified by '[GROUP]' next to the filename in the title bar (eg <filename.xlsx> [GROUP]). To remove this, I Right-click on the active sheet at the bottom of the screen and choose 'Ungroup sheets'.

Actually I just noted that if I logged into my win xp using another user name, the office 2010 works perfect. No issue at all.
But if I logged in using my current user name, I have the issue. There must be some set up issue in my current user profile. Only I don't know where to look at.

If all else fails, you could delete the faulty profile and create a new one. Doesn't take very long to do. Just make sure you back up any important files first.
