Question Unrelated install runs on startup of MS Office

Hi all,

I have a very strange problem. When I run MS Word or Excel a completely unrelated install program runs and tries to install its program.

This has nothing to do with Office at all. It's a program that I installed weeks ago but for some reason it is running when I start my Office programs.

Does anyone have an idea why? Where would this entry be in the registry or in what folder could this be run from?

Thanks in advance if you have my answer.

hi laaubin,

Your description suggests the program wants to run as an Office Addin. Without knowing the details, though, it's not possible to say, for sure. Have you checked the program's documentation or tried contacting the program's supplier?

Hi Paul,

I checked the Addins and there isn't anything related to the installer that's running on Word and Excel on startup.

I thought there was a folder or something in the registry for programs to be run by/for Office?

Thanks for your help.

There are many different ways a program might run, including intercepting calls to another program before passing those calls on to the program in question. Such a process wouldn't be evident from any Office-related registry keys. Did you check all the addin types (via Word Options|Addins > Manage)?

macropod,

I've checked the addins and there's nothing related to the program installer that's running.

I'm wondering if I should try and remove that program and see if that might cure it...

I'd be suspicous of any program that tries to run when you try to run something else that's not related - unless of course it's from a reputable supplier and their doco says that's what it's supposed to do.
