Default Office 2000 Validation Nightmare, PLEASE HELP!

I have been using the Upgrade Version of Office 2000 which I ran under Windows XP (32-Bit) then Vista Ultimate (32-Bit), and it worked great!

To Validate the installations on Windows XP (32-Bit) then Vista Ultimate (32-Bit) I used my Word 97 CD and Microsoft accepted it and installed my Upgrade Version of Office 2000.

I have upgraded to the 64-Bit Version of Vista Ultimate, which required a clean install of the Operating System.

When I go to install my Upgrade Version of Office 2000, the validation process will not recognize my Word 97 CD and in turn will not install the Upgrade Version of Office 2000 I have.

I do not want to go back to the 32-Bit Version of Vista.

I like and have no reason to upgrade beyond the level of Office that I own.

Is there any help or guidance that the Forum can provise that will allow me to sucessfully install: Office 2000 (32-Bit) under Vista Ultimate (64-Bit)?

NOTE: The Processor / CPU I have installed does not allow for Vista to run XP in a Virtual Partition.

Best regards,

Mike Lynch

Hi Mike,

You don't need to install Office 97. Copy the Office 97 CD to a temporary folder on the HDD. Then, when you install Office 2000, it will either find it on its own or, if it doesn't, prompt you for the location of the qualifying product; in that case, simply point it to the temporary folder. Afterwards, you can delete the temporary folder.

Note: you should be able to do this without even copying anything to the HDD - when the Office 2000 installer prompts you for the location of the qualifying product, simply insert the Office 97 CD.
