Default How to make templates in SharePoint retain all customisation including Quick Parts?

I've been having a lot of trouble trying to use templates out of SharePoint. Essentially while things like custom styles and multi-level lists are retained when different users access the same document (whether the document has been generated from a .dotx saved as a template content type, or from a .dotx uploaded straight to the library), I can't get Quick Parts to stay attached to the template or to the documents generated from the template. They only show when I open the template or documents.

What am I doing wrong? Help appreciated!
