Sounds like you deleted the shortcut not the file, if that's the case, just locate the exe file and re-create the shortcut.

Default Re-install Paint

Hi Matrix

I did do that, and Thanks I tried that. I found another forum and followed the suggestion but couldnt find mspaint in the Windows/System 32 folder. Can you tell me where to locate the exe file?

I need to be able to use this function.

Many Thanks

The Windows/System32 folder is probably hidden, try this link.

Hello Matrix

thanks for the further instructions which I followed but still didnt get anywhere. Having unhidden files I went into 'windows/system32'. I searched for mspaint and paint but couldnt find either. I got round the work I needed to do on Thurs night but will still need this function so really appreciate the help

You can download one, search 'download Microsoft paint for Windows XP'.

Have you considered other free image software?

Thanks Matrix,

I did initially look for download but have been told another way which works, but thanks for link, much appreciated.

For all those who want to know how to Reinstall Paint - See Method 2 below:

1) Go to control panel
2) Click Add/Remove programs
3) On the left hand side click "add/remove windows components"
4) In this box make sure Accessories is ticked (where Paint is located)
5) Click next and begin installation.

6) Paint should now be in the Acessories menu. If it isnt go back to C:\Windows\system32 directory and find mspaint.exe (it has been reinstalled). To recreate the shortcut in your start bar - right click mspaint.exe and create shortcut, you can then drag the shortcut to the Accessories menu or your desktoop for convenience.

Happy Painting!!!
