Default Word mail merge date format error

Hi,
When I mail merge from an Excel file, the date in Word just comes out as numbers eg 44561 and this is even with using the Toggle Field Code function as shown below.

{MERGEFIELD "Research_Records_Due_Date"\@ "d.MMMM.yyyy"}

As instructed, after adding in "\@ "d.MMMM.yyyy" I pressed F9.
I got these instructions from a very old thread (2010) on here so perhaps things have changed since then?

Any help much appreciated please.
Thank you.

PS. I have just discovered that one date is appearing ok as a date after the merge and discovered that it comes from the a cell that does not have a formula in it - all the others have this formula =DATE(YEAR(Z56),MONTH(Z56)+3,DAY(Z56))

Does this mean you can only run mail merge from cells with no formulas in??

PSS it's now working!!!! I tried reformatting all the date columns even though they looked ok, closed the DB and merge file and tried again. Looks ok now.
