Default Mail Merge and Text Boxes

Hi all,

I am trying to create a template for name tents and it is proving to be much more difficult than I expected. I need them to be double sided which means the first field for each tag MUST BE upside down text. This is not possible with tables so I am stuck using text boxes to flip it over (something I wish I didn't have to do, it's akin to merging cells in Excel in my opinion). What I need is for the first name to populate in the first two text boxes, the next name to populate in the next two boxes and so on...Ideally this is done with a mail merge rather than manually typing/copy pasting 30+ names 2x each

Currently I have built a table that aligns exactly with our special tent card paper (avery 5305 whose template is useless and not accurate) and prints everything in the right location. The text boxes are inside the table because it made formatting easier - not even sure how I would get exact spacing without a table honestly. Everything is hunky dory til I try to add the mail merge step.

It refuses to allow "next record" in a text box. So I get the same name populated over and over. I've tried putting "next record" in the table itself, above the next text box, and it doesn't seem to recognize it. I am absolutely stumped as to how I'm supposed to make this work.

I have attached the file. The first page shows what I need it to look like when complete and the second page shows where I currently am with the mail merge steps. Any insight/help would be greatly appreciated (like maybe a way to type upside down in tables?). The formatting MUST stay exactly the same (margins, cell size, text box size, etc.)

TLDR: need double sided name tents and would prefer to mail merge the names into place rather than typing them out

Have you tried changing the page layout to landscape, with a 4-column table - which would allow you to use the table text orientation to achieve the flipped text you require?
