It's difficult to tell without seeing it. Are you merging to letters, or something where there's more than one (label, table, etc.) per page?

Look for a stray <<Next Record>> in your Word template. And, of course, check your Excel source for any stray information, including hidden rows or columns.

Also be aware that when you do a preview of results, things don't always look right. For example, if I'm doing a merge to two tables per page, it usually shows me 1 and 2 on the first page, 2 and 3 on the second, etc. in preview mode only. When I do the actual merge things generally look right.
