Default Mail Merge for spousal data

Hi,

I have tried to follow Conditionally Merge Spouse Data in the Mailmerge Tips & Tricks (https://www.msofficeforums.com/mail-...ps-tricks.html) but it has me beat. How do I add the mail merge data for spousal data as follows -
  • No partner surname therefore only add first name & surname
  • Partner surname is the same so add first name of the partner BEFORE the surname
  • Partner surname is different so add the partner first name and surname AFTER the surname of first person

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Since you don't say what issues you're having, it's impossible to add to what's already in the Mailmerge Tips & Tricks thread, where the only difference from your specification is that middle names are catered for.

Sorry Paul,

The issue I am having is understanding the syntax you have in that section and how to apply it to the scenarios I mentioned. I am very much a novice and as I can't "cut and paste", I am uncertain as to what to do.

Cheers,
George

The complete syntax is already there for all three scenarios - all you need do is omit the field codes concerning middle names.

Thank you, I have now done that and it works. I am on a Mac, how do I preview the results?

Mailmerge previews are not a reliable indicator of the output with such field coding try sending at least some of the data to a new document.

I did that Paul - that's how I knew it worked 😉 I understand and I'll check using the method you advise.

Cheers,
George
