Default IF Statements NOT working when the Merge Field is a checkbox

I have a Word Document that has several "IF" statements.

There are several "IF" Statements that reference a "Merge" field that is a checkbox, so if the checkbox is checked, print this text, if it is un-checked, print this different text.
Here's an example of what I have:

{IF <<Opportunity_Autopay>> = TRUE "Text" "Alternate Text"}

I have tried putting the TRUE in quotes, I've tried it without quotes, nothing is working.
Can you please let me know where I am going wrong in the formula?

Thank you,
Shawn

There is no such thing as a mergefield checkbox. If the data source contains a checkbox character, then you need to insert the same checkbox character (not TRUE) into the IF test.

Good Morning,

Thank you getting back to me on this.
Please accept my apologies in advance, for what I am sure are dumb questions.
What do you mean when you say "Insert the same checkbox character into the IF Statement"?
The IF statement is looking at a field in Salesforce, in this case, that field is a checkbox. If the checkbox is "checked" then a specific paragraph needs to be included in the document. If the checkbox is not checked, then different paragraph would need to be included.
So what would the IF Statement look like?
(Yes, basically, I'm asking if you can provide me the formula for the IF Statement)

It almost seems easier to change the field in Salesforce to a picklist and use "Yes" & "No", that way I can use the "merge" field in the IF statement.

Please let me know about adding the same checkbox character?

Thank you,

How are you creating <<Opportunity_Autopay>> and what does it output? Whatever it outputs is what you have to test.
