Default Mailmerge line graphs with Macropod's demo

Running into a frustrating issue with the demo from Macropod...

While my merge file works with single entities it doesn't automatically update the graphs and when I tell it to update all (control-A/Update Field)... I get black bars instead of the alternating red and blue line graph.

I'm pretty sure it's something in the way I'm set up. Any help out there?

Marked this one solved... had to work around differently and pull the export out of the school database. For some reason, the letter function causes it to merge styles every time it's updated. Just easier for me to work around it and make it less automated than to fight something I have no control over.
