Default MailMerge: bottom margin does not print as displayed

I have MailMerge setup to print 2 pages on 8 1/2 X 11 in landscape orientation. The bottom margin is 0" and the text is as close as I can get it to the bottom without causing a new page. The printed document has a 2" bottom margin.

What am I missing? I want a bottom margin of 0.5".

Use a different printer.
Word uses whatever the printer says it can do.

You should be able to get margins as small as 0.25in on most printers. Your description suggests a mismatch between the page size in Word and the paper size in the printer. Check, too, whether you have Word's 'Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes' option checked.
