data lost in merge
I am prepping a merge with over 500 items so I separated four out and am trying to get them right before I format the whole thing . After two days I am finally at a point where I can get the pictures to show up, but I have hit a wall I cannot seem to get over.
The data is in an Excel database. The first column should have a book cover and the second column has title, author, publication information, etc. I have six merge fields in that column. The first of the five items comes in fine. The second image shows up with the data for the third book. The next image shows up with no book data and there is no data or image for anything else. Why isn't it finding and merging all my data? What do I need to do next? |

Delete the double quotes from your Excel workbook. If you really need something that looks like double quotes in the output, use paired single quotes.

Thanks, but did not help
They were not necessary, just something I had not cleaned up yet. Mass deleted all the quotes out of the doc and re-ran the merge with the same results.
I tried rearranging them to see if it was something in the lines, but I still get three images and two narratives, only the first set matches. That leads me to believe it is something in the command sequencing. |

Without actually seeing the mailmerge main document and some representative data, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach the mailmerge main document and a workbook to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

I appreciate your time. Here are some files. There are six items in this one. .csv is not an allowed file type so I included the .xlsx, but I did use a .csv for my attempt. (To be honest, I have tried it both ways, neither with much success)
The cover with no name on it goes with A Witch Shall Be Born. That is the second cover on the list but the third item for the merge. The next two the covers and book info are one off, then they just stop. Thanks again, Helen 2 HOURS LATER: I realized I had not removed the quotation marks from the sample I sent so I did and reran it with the same failed results. That is not the issue. |

Your workbook still has double-quotes - in column Q.
Your table also has too many «Next Record» fields, which is why the images and data don't align. It also explains why you're getting some of the other errors. I suggest deleting all rows except the first row and running the merge as a Directory merge.

Directory did the trick. It worked great for the six items I tested with. Now to add the other 500....
Thanks, Helen |
