Default Mail Merge Error

I have been having success using a CSV file for my data source but all of a sudden today it is not allowing me to use the CSV file. I'm getting the below error:

Word could not open 40BDDE8D because it didn't contain a valid database.

Have you tried opening the CSV in Excel to ensure that it is valid?
