Default whole mailmerge disappears after merging

Trying to merge from an excel 10 document which has some formulas in it. Will this have an impact on the merging. The word doc is saved as word 97-2003 document. The excel document is saved as 97-2003. After merging the whole section disappears.
Why?

Provided your data are suitably structured for a mailmerge and you're using the mailmerge type appropriate to your needs, there shouldn't be any issues. I have no idea what you mean by "After merging the whole section disappears".

I have attached 2 screenshots to show you the before and after. All the information is in the spreadsheet but isn't being merged across.

Your screenshots suggest you may be trying to merge to textboxes. You'd probably get better results using a table instead.
