Batch create word files with link to changing excel
Hi,
I need to create a batch of word files which contain links to an excel file. I have an excel file containing names and areas. I need to create a lot of word files, each file containing the name and areas of one row in excel. e.g. Word: This person [NAME] has acces to [area(s)] in the year 2016. Excel: |NAME| AREA | AREA | AREA | AREA | AREA | |Eric| Area 1| Area 2| |Joseph| Area 3| |Hannes| Area 1| Area 4| Area 7| Area 3| Area4| The output should then be 3 word files in each of which [Name] is replaced by the name in cell A1:C1 and [area(s)] by the areas in cells B1:C5. Each word file having the content of a seperate row of the excel file. file 1: This person Eric has acces to Area1 and Area2 in the year 2016. file 2: This person Joseph has acces to Area3 in the year 2016. file 3: This person Hannes has acces to Area1, Area4, Area7, Area3 and Area4 in the year 2016. Is this possible? And if yes, do you always see the [NAME] and [Areas] as if you inserted a cell or can you get just the tekst there? Thanks in advance guys! |

This sounds like a Many to One mail merge - take a look at http://www.gmayor.com/ManyToOne.htm and its sample files.

Thanks this is exactly what I needed! The only thing I can't figure out:
I can do everything up to making a document in which it merges several versions of the document. Perfect. Only I can't find where to get the dialog box he shows on his website in which I can select how to save to multiple files etc. I only see the "Sendlists" tab in my word which I can use to add the merge fields and all that but don't see where I open the window to finalise to several seperate files. |

On the first page of the add-in dialog, select Merge to Individual Word Files - http://www.gmayor.com/Images_2013/imgE.jpg

Thx for the help Gmayor, it is not so much that I can't figure out how to do it, I just cant find where to open the add-in dialog. Like the whole screen he posts all the screenshots from. All I have is an extra tool bar in word.

You don't even need an addin for this. Word's mailmerge tools and the Send Mailmerge Output to Individual Files macro in the Mailmerge Tips & Tricks thread are quite sufficient. See:

Gmayor, thanks for all the help so far. Could you please tell me how to get the add-in dialog open?

If the add-in is correctly installed, it adds a group to the Mailings tab of the ribbon.
Open your Letters merge document, ensure the Excel data source is attached and the document is saved. Click the Start Merge button in the add-in Group. By default the template goes in the Word startup folder (with Word closed) If you have not changed the preferred startup folder it can be located (in English language versions of Windows) by typing %appdata%\Microsoft\Word\Startup in the Windows Explorer Address bar and pressing Enter. This is all explained on the web page?

Thanks for all the help guys! The problem was indeed that the MailMergeManyToOne was not correctly installed. For some reason I couldn't get it to install with any of the files or methods described. So the toolbar I thought was from the ManyToOne was actually the Mailmerge tool in word. I used macropod's link, edited the macro a little and it works like a charm! Thank you very much sirs!
