I have a list of documents to be signed by individuals. To make the documents (legal contracts) appear very professional I would like to center the signer's name under the signature line. Because the names have various lengths a simple tab won't work.
Is there a way to center the merge field for their name under a line of standard length? ________________________________ Very Long Name stretches out ________________________________ Short Name |

If you put both into a two-row table with the 'automatically resize to fit contents' option checked and the paragraph formatting for both rows centred, that should take care of the issue.

A simple tab won't work, but a centre aligned tab should. Put a centre tab at the centre of the area where you want the field to be aligned and tab to it. Insert the field and the centre of the field result will be aligned to the tab.
