Perhaps you could explain what you're trying to achieve? Directory/Catalogue merges and label merges are quite different.

If based on your message title, and reading between the lines, you mean merge by Outlook categories, then the link is not the way forward. You must start the merge to labels from Outlook - see http://www.gmayor.com/mailmerge_from_outlook.htm

Thanks for the fast replies on this topic!
Setup:
xls with Registration for swimming championchips
xls contains a row per stroke (for example row1 "athleteid" "distance & stroke" "entry time")
so multiple rows for 1 athleteid or possible...
I solved this by merging rows, afterwards it was easy to merge the labels

1) installed extra ribbon ablebits data -> combine rows & delete doubles
2) max subscriptions for each athlete is 8, so in my label layout I entered a table with 8 rows... so rows not needed will not be shown

setup was to create a badge for each athlete with his name, id and all the strokes she or he has to do (with the necessary info available like heat/lane/...)

If somebody needs further explanation, shoot!

OK, for future reference, to get multiple records onto the same label without modifying the data source, you'd need to use a DATABASE field in conjunction with the mailmerge. This can be quite fiddly to set up.

If re-arranging the data source isn't an issue, you could have, say, one row per competitor, with a separate column for each event. It then becomes a fairly simple matter of inserting all the event fields into each label, with the appropriate switches to suppress empty lines.
