Default word 2003 and sql 2005

So, I have several forms that employees are entering information from reports based off a sql2005 database. There must be a way to populate word fields based off an account number entered from the sql database. Also, I'd rather not have to create an odbc connection on each workstation. Is there a way to publish on our local intranet and have the odbc connection reside there?
