Merge not Displaying as Coded
Hello,
I have a field in a database that is a picklist with 4 values. Based on those values I wanted to have certain text appear but cannot seem to have displayed correctly when testing. I am using the If...Then logic but this does not seem to be working for me. I have attached the sample of If Then logic being attempted. Any guidance or insight is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Derek Morrison |

The reason your field doesn't work is that the embedded IF tests are created using ordinary, typed, braces, instead of field braces created via Ctrl-F9. They also lack the pairing of the opening and closing braces that true field braces would employ, so it's not possible to decipher what your intended field logic is. Furthermore, you don't need either the italics or the MERGEFORMAT switches for the fields to work and your last test seems pointless (it outputs nothing in either case).

Thank you
Hello macroprod,
Many thanks for your speedy and clear response. My mistake is that I expected when within the main CTRL+F9 logic portion that keyed in brackets would be noted accordingly. Your corrections were most helpful in finding my errors. All is working as expected thanks to you but was hoping for a follow-up question if you had time. I have included a sample of the end product and as you can see there is an extra space when the text, if applicable, would be placed. Would you be able to provide insight into how to remove this extra row while stillkeeping text, when present, on its own line? I have included the section of logic as well. I will address the MERGEFORMAT as you mentioned just making incremental changes to track if issues. Many thanks, Derek |

I'm not sure which 'extra space' you mean. If you mean there's an empty paragraph where the text would otherwise go, the solution is to move the paragraph break into the field, so it too becomes part of the conditional content.

Thanks again
Hello Paul,
Yes. I am referring to the extra space where the text would place if met qualifier. Trying to figure out how to delete space so document looks proper when text is not there. Afraid I am new to the Word logic and I am unclear on how to complete. I will research and see if I can locate a How To doc on working with If logic Many thanks, Derek |
