Mail merge pictures from Access to Word
I am the administrator of a small school. I need to make ID cards with the students' name, DoB, Grade, and picture. About a month ago, I had some spare time so I set everything up with a couple dummy pictures. It took quite some time, but I got it working. I saved it and left it alone. Now I have the pictures. One would assume all I need to change is the file name in my access database. I did that and everything's gone downhill from there! I've tried so many different things since then that I have no idea what I had done originally.
I have been trying to follow the instructions I found here: https://www.msofficeforums.com/mail-...t-picture.html This is what I have so far: Hmm, I don't seem to be able to copy and paste it. There's a screenshot attached. When I get to the part where I need to add the merge field (in the screenshot, it would be right after 'official') I try to use the "insert merge fields" button to get the chevrons, the entire thing disappears and is replaced with a filename that would put the same picture in every card. Or it disappears completely and looks blank. I know there's something there. I can't remember how to get it to show, and it certainly doesn't work! |

Press Alt-F9 to toggle the field code display 'on' while you're building the field. Do note that, instead of the mergefield with the chevrons (eg «myField»), you'll see { MERGEFIELD MyField }. When you're done press Alt-F9 again to toggle the field code display 'off'.
PS: don't expect the field to display your pictures properly until you actually 'Finish' the merge.

Ah! I was trying Ctrl+f9.
It still isn't working though. This is what I have... hopefully I copy it correctly, I still can't copy and paste. { if {includepicture{ if true "c:\users\Jeanne\SkyDrive\school pictures\official{mergefield Pic_names }"} \d} {includepicture{ if true "c:users\jeanne\skydrive\school pictures\official{mergefield Pic_names } } \d} When I merge all the documents then select all and hit f9 to refresh, nothing happens. Previously, I've been able to hi alt+f9 in the finished documents and see the code, but now I can't. |

I suspect you should have a '\' in both uses of official{mergefield Pic_names} (i.e. {official\{mergefield Pic_names}). You should also have a space after both uses of includepicture (i.e. {includepicture {).

It still didn't work. I gave up and inserted 50 pictures manually

Does your 'Pic_names' field include the extension (e.g. '.jpg')? If not, you'd need to add that to the field code (twice) too.

I did not have .jpeg. I added it after the } before the " and still nothing.

it needs to go after {mergefield Pic_names }, as in {mergefield Pic_names }.jpeg
