Default Question about mail merge in Word

Hi
I've been looking for the answer but I haven't found it on board that's why I have a question.
Is there possible to create mail marge in MS Word with the source database in the same file. I know that it possible to do it in external file like mdb or xlsx.
There is need to do it in one file because I need it to send to wide range of users and I'am afraid that sending to users two files soon or later will cause lost of link between them and make problems with relinking files.

I don't know if it's possible at all but maybe somebody knows how to do it.

Thanks a lot

Regards
Paul

In short, no. Although it might be feasible at one level, what your mailmerge output would consist of is a copy of both your 'letter' and the datasource being output for every record - hardly a desirable outcome.

Thanks for reply. I suspected that there will be an answer like that. But I wanted be sure. Well I think we can only wait for a momnet when Microsoft figure out how to do it and add that feature in next Office version.

Thanks and regards
Paul

IMHO, there is no business case for doing so, so it's unlikely it will ever happen. If MS was going to do so, they've already had 20+ years of MS Office in which to do something. I've been providing user support for Word on forums for over a decade and, in all that time, you're the first I can recall suggesting such a thing.

Dear Paul,
Why don't you just create your two files in the usual way, then zip them into one file before mailing to your colleagues.

As indicated in the very first post in this thread, that's exactly what the OP is trying to avoid. Merely zipping a mailmerge main document and its datasource together is no guarantee the mailmerge will work 'out of the box' when unzipped.
