Assuming you only want the output to reflect a nominated shift on a nominated dat, you could use a SKIPIF field, coded along the lines of:
{SKIPIF{={IF{MERGEFIELD MyDate \@ YYYYMMDD}={FILLIN "Date to include (in YYYYMMDD format, please)." \@ YYYYMMDD \o } 1 0}*{IF{MERGEFIELD Shift}={FILLIN "Shift to include." \o} 1 0}}= 0}

Note: The field brace pairs (ie '{ }') for the above example are created in the body of the document via Ctrl-F9 (Cmd-F9 on a Mac) - you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this message.
