Exclamation Word 2003 mail merge problem..

Hi i have two problems with the mail merge feature using word 2003SP3.

when doing a mail merge i select Tools/letter and mailings/mail merge...
this gives me the mail merge steps.

I select 'browse existing list' and browse to a .doc file which holds my address information.
Next i select 'edit...' to change some of the infomation as required.
I finish the steps of the mail merge and then select 'print'. the data on the document does not reflect the data ive just changed.

Any one know why the data is not saving in the .doc data source?

The other problem im having is that the main document is not saving the data source location so i have to select it every time.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  1. By this you mean that you merge to a new document and then choose to edit individual letters - is that correct?
  2. If you change data in the mail merge, it will not change data in the Source Data, to do that you must open the Source Data as in individual file and edit it there.
  3. If you want the Source Data to be available without having to browse for it, then it must be saved in the 'My Data Sources' folder located in 'My Documents' - not sure if you can just drop your existing *.doc file in there, or if you will have to type it into Step 3 of the Mail Merge Process (create new when asked about Data Source) as this is automatically saved into the correct folder as *.mdb (Mailing Database) - this file can then be edited by opening it in Access.
Does that help at all?

If you want to edit records you need to do it before the connection is made to the data source. After that, it will only recognize the original data source and data.
