I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2016 Pro 64 bits. This didn't help.
I then uninstalled Office 2016 Pro 64 and installed Office 2016 Pro 32 bits. This solved the problem. I have now renamed the directory where the 32 bit installation files are on an external SSD to INSTALL THIS 32 BITS VERSION. But I suspect I'll buy 2019 before I install 2016 again. Thanks for thinking about my issue. David
