Mail Merge / DSN / Data Link / MySQL
Hello all,
I have been using mySQL for years for my projects to generate documents (Word) and reports (Excel). I usually install ODBC driver, open Word, click Mail Merge, Select Recipients, New Source, ODBC DSN, I select the DSN I configured using C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe (for installing 32bit ODBC Connector), complete the wizard using the DSN and user / pass that worked when I setup the DSN. When the wizard finishes I get "Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Catastrophic failure." I need to be able to connect Word 2007 to the mySQL server to pull data and merge documents... HELP PLEASE !!! I have never had these issues before... specs below. Win 7 64bit Word / Office 2007 32bit ODBC mySQL-connector-ODBC-5.1.10-win32 DSN setup using the 32bit installer C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe Any help is appreciated, I have also tried the 64 bit ODBC for the hell of it to no avail... I may try to install in XP mode, I never had these problems with XP. FYI when setting up the DSN everything goes as expected and I am able to connect to the dbase. Its only when Word uses the "Data Link Properties" dialog that it fails. Thanks in advance... Bob |

Hi Bob,
As a first step, try repairing Office, via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose. If that doesn't resolve things, check out the discussion here: http://www.wordbanter.com/showthread.php?t=90653

Hi Bob,
I see you posted the question in two different threads here. Please don't do that. I've now merged the threads.
