Default Skipping pages in a mail merge

Hi! Is it possible to skip the first two pages in every document except for the first document? For instance, we're sending separate faxes to each office but would like to merge it truly into one fax per office. We would like to send the cover letter and purpose letter in only the first document and only the unique portions of the other faxes together, skipping the cover letter and purpose letter on the rest to make one fax.

Please help! Thanks!

Hi NewGirl,

Yes, that's possible for a single document, but the reference to multiple documents is confusing. A mailmerge typically produces only one output document.

Default Thank you

I'm sorry about the confusion. Yes, we want to produce one document. Right now, we're sending out a separate fax for each person in the office, with a separate purpose letter and cover sheet. What we want to do is send only one cover sheet and purpose letter per office and the individual person's document all together in one document, skipping the cover page and purpose letter in the rest. I'm not sure if that helps clear anything up. It's really difficult to explain.

Hi NewGirl,

So are you only sending faxes via mailmerge to only one destination at a time? If so, it's quite easy to supress the purpose letter & cover page for the 2nd & subsequent records; if not, you need either a vba solution of some quite complex field coding.

Hi NewGirl,
In that case, you can encapsulate the first two pages in an IF field coded as:
{IF { MERGESEQ } = 1 "the first two pages" }
Note the expression spacing and double quotes. Also note that you'll need to insert a backslash character (ie '\') before any other single or double quotes on the first two pages.
To create the field coding:
• Type 'IF MERGESEQ = 1 "' before the start of the existing 1st-page text.
• Select the MERGESEQ and press Ctrl-F9 to encompass it in a pair of field braces, thus '{ MERGESEQ }'
• Type and double-quote character at the end of the 2nd page
• Select the whole of the first two pages and press Ctrl-F9 to encompass them in another pair of field braces, thus '{IF { MERGESEQ } = 1 "the first two pages" }
• Press F9 to update
You're now ready to run your mailmerge.
