Default header/footer doc merge

I hope someone will be able to help, i have researched tried all similar situation solutions and to no avail, not working.

What i have is a document that is set up as a merge with a different header on page 1 with page 2 and subsequent header pages being the same, except for a {page} in the header, which also does not work if more than 2 pages. I also want to have a footer that uses the IF field and has nothing to do with the merge, basically {IF pages = numpages """Continued...". meaning if only 1 page footer would be blank, if more than 1 page, the last page footer would be blank. i have put in section breaks according to this demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reOP_q_0vaI and as usual everything works in doc before merge, but once merge nothing works, especially if more than 2 pages.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mrtinfl,

Without even viewing the demo, I can tell you the problem is with the IF field. That's because it gets evaluated and converted to plain text immediately the merge for each record begins.

You need an approach that avoids the IF field. Try using just a single Section with the footer field coded as:
{={SECTIONPAGES}-{PAGE} \# "'Continued...';;"}
for a letter or label merge, or:
{={NUMPAGES}-{PAGE} \# "'Continued...';;"}
for a Directory or Catalogue merge.
