Default Matrix Algebra

Good evening!

I've come across some matrix problems, as I am currently dealing with some physics work in my field.

I have a variety of real-number 3x3 matricies that I would need to diagonalize, which can take a lot of scribbling time with scrap paper.
(i.e. Any square matrix A = PDP^-1) Is there a way I can get excel to produce the eigenvalues for me? Ideally I would have a function where I could input the 3x3 array and it would produce the diagonal elements for me.

Thanks! Bryan

Maybe I should be a bit more specific... The eigenvalues should be the same as finding all 3 values for x in (ax^3 + bx^2 + cx +d = 0)!

Hi,

You'll have to program an algorithm to do it, or find someone else who has. Lots of hits on Google including this one.

Thanks Colin.
The Matrix 32 add-in works really well for the purpose. My internet research didn't turn up as much with "quartic equation solving", but I did find (http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88804) which is nice quick code, but it can't handle complex numbers. Hopefully, Matrix32 covers all !
(SOLVER works too, but only finds the first root!)
