I have a cell that has the following data:
For example: (a 3-digit number and then a name) 123 Robert 234 Bill 456 Jane 342 Sue I want to be able to separate the numbers into one cell and the name into another. Using Excel 2010, how can this be done? Your help is greatly appreciated. |

Steps to take.
1. Save your work sheet as a text file 2. Open up the text file in Excel as a .txt file. You should get the Text Import Wizard. 3. Click "Next" for step 2 of 3. In the area in the upper left hand corner of the dialog box, check on the box that says "Space". That should put a line between the numbers and letters. 4. Click "Next" to format the columns or "Finish" to complete the opening of the file. Your words should be separated by columns |

well, there is a method, very easy:
select your range to split, then on Data tab, Data instruments-text to column.... folow the menu, and select your separator.. in you case, it' s a space.. your range is now separated in next columns, each word or numbers in a column |
