Automatically select first item in drop-down?
Is there a way to have the first item in a data validation drop-down list automatically selected?
I have a workbook set up with dependent lists data validation. So I enter the first cells data, 5:30 PM. The second cell's data validation is always the first cell's time + two hours. Instead of clicking the drop-down list and selecting the only option, 7:30 PM, is there a way to have the value selected automatically? Thanks! |

Why Two Validation Lists?
Hi,
Note sure why you have two validation lists, when the second is always 2 hours different. See attached example, I have created a short time validation list to the right. Select time in Col A, and Col C will show new time, plus 2 hours. Hope this helps. |

I'm using data validation instead of a formula directly in the cell because I want the user to be able to enter a time other than 2 hours later without having to erase the formula.
I attached my spreadsheet. I'm just wondering if there's a way to have whatever the first item in the data validation drop-down list be selected automatically. |

Hi,
You need VBA, cannot help you here. The closest I have seen to your requirement is... http://www.contextures.com/xldataval02.html It is a dependant list. But you would still need to select second list, and this is based on the first list. Sorry I cannot help more on this occasion. |
