Default Using the LOOKUP Command

I'm using =LOOKUP(999999,A13:A84) for finding the most recent entered Date in a list of dates. Is there a way to modify the line so that it will select the cell prior to the one the current code finds.

Eg: Curently the code spits out the contents of cell A72. I'd lile it to spit out the contents of cell A71.

Thanks in advance.
