Resizing the Name range
I'm using the list in conditional formatting for a dropdown list of tooling (Excel 2007). I identified a range and assigned it the name "Toolinglist" I now have tools that I need to add to that list and therefore need to establish a larger range. How do I expand the range for "Toolinglist" without renaming it and changing all the references to it in my workbook? |

Hi
When you setup a range that is likely to need expanding it is always best to specify a much larger range. That way you can just add extra entries without having to change the range. You will need to re-specify the range and then add the extra values. Hope this helps. Tony |

Thanks. That was what I was afraid of. By "re-specify" I assume you mean to use a new name for a new range.

You are using Excel 2007 so you can use a Table. It will automatically expand as you add to it. In the attached example I have created a table containing a list of tools. In H4 I have used data validation to create a dropdown list. If you add a new tool to the list (C9, then C10 etc) you will see that it automatically gets added into the dropdown list.
For reference, in versions prior to Excel 2007 you could use a List (Excel 2003 only) or a dynamic named range. |

You would have to delete the range and re-create it using a larger selection. You use the same name again. I would suggest you use the whole column and keep it sorted for ease of finding the correct tool. Hope this helps Tony |
