Default file conversion ?

Hi all , i use a common drive shared portal based at work ,this has been fine since starting to use it a few years ago but for about 6 weeks for some reason when i try and get into it i get the following message.

"The file you are trying to open works excel XLSX is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"

so i say yes but it still doesnt or cant convert the file? i have checked with my work place and they tell me nothing has been changed their end?? so any ideas guys ?

Hi Colin,

Have you verified that the file is not, in fact, corrupt?

As for your work 'not having changed anything at their end', if the file is OK, it seems to me something has changed at one end or both. Sometimes seemingly innocuous changes make a big difference. For example, on another site where I'm a moderator, there were persistent problems with IE downloading zip files. Counter-intuitively, it required changing the mime-type setting for the zip filetype from "content-type: application/zip" to "content-type: application/octet-stream" to get it to work. I'm not saying that's what the problem is at your end, but it just goes to show how the "nothing's changed" mantra might really mean "we don't think we changed anything of consequence".
