Help with creating a Formula, please
Hi All, I have a basic knowledge of Excel formulas.
Now I need a formula using 3 columns. eg: A1, B1, C1. OK my column A1 needs to be able have input such as 400, which value needs to be $5.00, 600, value $8.00, etc. There are 6 numbers with different values. Now my column B1 has a similar style, but with only 2 values R1=$2, R2=$4. column C1 needs to be able to calculate the sum of A1 + B1 = C1 eg: 400 + R1 = $7.00 OR 400 + R2 = $9.00. I hope this is understandable. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks websiteaog |

I'm sorry, it makes no sense to me. You can put 400 in a cell, or you can put $5.00 in a cell, but you cannot put two values in a cell.
Perhaps if you explained your business need instead of dictating how it should be accomplished, it would work better. |

Sorry
Sorry, guess I didn't explain myself very well.
OK the number in column A1 is the length of timber, and text in column B1 is the type / style of timber. So to make it very easy for our packing staff the send invoices off, if they just needed to put the length of the timber in and the code for type / style, they wouldn't have to work out the cost themselves. Hope that helps a little Thanks |

I cant give you a formula because you haven't provided enough information. Probably the VLOOKUP function is what you need to learn to do. There is a great deal of information on how to do this function available on the web.

Thanks, I will see if I can find out about that. I really don't know how else to explain it to you. I will see what I can find on the VLookup,

Hi Kimberly,
I checked out the VLookup function, and it didn't seems to be what I needed, so let me see if I can explain what I need to do again. OK I have column A1 which numbers are entered, (set numbers) I need to assign a $ amount to each number. ( So depending what number is entered the dollar value is different.) Then the next column B1 is basically the same, but it has a letter and number combination. These also have a dollar value assigned to it. Column C1 is the sum of A1+B1. Is that any clearer. Thanks for your patience. |

It would be very helpful for all concerned if you posted a sample spreadsheet showing your data (and possibly what the desired result would look like). Please see this link to the FAQ for instructions on how to post an attachment.
