PROTECTED VIEW its source file is a bit sick what way to fix it ?
Hi,
I have an Excel 2010 finances file .xls of MANY sheets, going back to 2003 on some subject sheets. Each year I create a new sheet for food for example, and petrol. latest sheet is fed by previous sheet in some places. Its my life on screen ! I have now gone to win10 64bit pro and installed Office 2013, and Excel 2013 is now the prog running it. Its still saved as .xls I see. I just save it so its never prompted me to save it as .xlsx yet. All has been well since Nov 14 2022, then a day or so ago feb 28, I noticed the colour fills were not saved, data was. I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, STILL HAPPENING AFTER REBOOT. I needed a read only at left to have to refer to (View new window does not suit me as if I click a page hyperlink in it, it changes the page I was working on in the editable version at right !) sorry Msoft but bad move, give me back the read only when I open the file again..it worked so Msoft had to break it. I save my master file with this annoying 'no save on colour fills' issue, the 'save as' name suffix read only and with the master file still at screen right, I launch Excel and open the read only I just made and I get:- PROTECTED VIEW Office has detected a problem with this file. Editing may harm your computer. Click for more details PROTECTED VIEW Office has detected a problem with this file. Editing it may be dangerous. Don’t worry you can continue reading it in this view. If you need to edit, and you trust this file, then enable editing. So clearly the source file for this 'save as' is wonky. I have that colour issue I need to solve, perhaps there is more. I have a 'save as suffix read only' dated feb4th which opens fine. Should I revert to that and spend a week entering all the data since then all over again, or can Excel repair the wonky one ? how is that done ? I see the www has article saying the PROTECTED VIEW is a win10 thing, I have had 3 months of win10 things when win7 was fine. However I need to sort it but also fix that colour thing as I can't work with that ignoring my fills that are critiical to my excel files. What medicine do I feed Excel to heal this file ? Worried either way. I am in an urgent assess finances and solve a financial leak in investments and this happens. DBenz |

Perhaps you have used more colours than can be used in an xls file. Is there a reason not to upgrade it to a newer format?

Hi, same colours as used before.
yellow, used many times. newer format, if you mean why not Excel 2022 or something, I bought OfficePro 2010 and it includes 2013, as Office pro 2023 probably includes subscription mode, and I dont have money for such, I will use what I have. 2013 runs on win10, and so should run. My email 2 inboxes etc and back up files all fit in , and thats the worst complex thing going, got that running. win 10 has been hell, 3 months getting fully functional and not yet there, I dont want to try and cross another minefield, 365 stuff, etc. I am POP3 and need to remain so. so I need to stick with 2013, DBenz |
