active sheet has no visible active tab unlike excel2010

Hi,
I am now with Excel 2013, and opening my finaces workbook, I am looking at my Gas meter readings page yet I cannot see the tab called Gas Readings.
I recall the tabs were looking like rounded corners, and a much more brighter tab for the active one, dead easy to see. These are now with a thin line between them and all look the same, typical windows 10 dumbing down, no 3D effect at all, awful on the eye.


How do I bring into show at the bottom the tab for the page I am looking at and how is it differentiated from the non active tabs ?



Also the buttons at left and right have gone for showing first and last tab, I see a youtube repair for this, ctrl click left or right triangle.


what was wrong with the buttons though ?


It makes me feel inwardly unwell and sea sick when things that worked fine get removed for no sense at all and one is floundering in the sea without the comforting buoyancy ring !
