Default I'm a noob

Hi for everyone
I'm new in the Excel world. I'm taking an Excel course, but is hard if you don't have the basics.

Please I need some help, not for resolving my homework, but to understand the mechanism. Of course, my file can be improved...

So, I need to insert an function (don't know which one... ) on the L column, witch will tell me if the student has passed or not.

The stages are:
  • if has at least 1 score, or 2, or 3 under 5 it will be half passed
  • if has at least 4 scores under 5, will fail
    else will pass

I've made a trick to show this stage on the L column, but I think is not correct.

Tks fo your help!

Tks for your answer🤗, but please can you explain what does every piece of code 🙏

As I said, I don't want just someone to resolve my homework, but to understand how to resolve by myself next time.

Hi
in the future, please use a descriptive title thread, so that our members don't have to waste time opening a thread they are not interested in.
This being said after selecting a cell with a formula you can go to the Formula Tab and click the "Evaluate formula". You can now see the formula at work step by step.
Searching the web for the different functions used in answers will also help to grasp what is going on and what these functions do

1. COUNTIFS counts the number of scores less than 5 in current row ($C2:$F2 - row numbers change when the cell is copied up/down). Possible results in this table are 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4;
2. MATCH returns the number of condition value (condition values are defined as array {0;1;4}), the COUNTIFs result is matching. The type of match is determined with last parameter - as it is set 1, then when COUNTIF returns 0 then MATCH returns 1, when COUNTIFs returns 1, 2, or 3 then MATCH returns 2, and when COUNTIFS returns 4 then MATCH returns 3;
3. CHOOSE returns a value from list of parameters starting from 2nd one (pass, half pass, fail). Which value is returned, is determined by 1st parameter - i.e. by result of MATCH part of formula.
