Trying to reduce cells with two rows to one row
I inherited an Excel spreadsheet (Office 365 - Mac) where some of the cells are divided into two rows. How do I get them back to one cell/one row? |

Do you have the cells in one column formatted to wrap the text, and the text is entered as several lines into cells in this column, using Alt + Enter? Or are in other columns of your table rows merged pairwise, exept a single column where rows are left unmerged? |

I have the same question as Arvi above.
I've made an example where some entries are typed in two different cells/rows, and some are just broken with the ALT+Enter to show up on a second line in the same cell. In the first example where they are in two different cells, you can use a Concatenate formula to combine the contents of the two cells, and in this case, adding the comma and space in between them. In the "Peppermint Patty" example, I used Find/Replace, and in the Find cell I typed a CONTROL+J, and replaced with the comma and the space. It eliminates the manual line break in the Excel cell. Another method entirely if you have a lot of those line breaks within the cell would be to transform your document in PowerQuery if you have it. There's a command in there which would make it easy to remove those line breaks. I have PowerQuery within Excel 365 for Windows but I don't know anything about the Mac side. |

Forgot to add the image of what I did in the example.

Please excuse the delay; I injured my back shortly after making the post, which put me out for a few days.
My spreadsheet that I received had column titles in which two rows were shown to take up one cell. Or, the titles took up the entire cell, despite the cell having a height that amounted to two rows. I finally came upon Format Cells/Alignment/Text Control: uncheck Merge Cells. This did the trick. I was back to being able to use each row to a cell. Sorry for the confusion. But, I appreciate the responses. |
